Why is it called “Affirmative”?

Kim’s late sister-in-law Kristie was a brilliant brand strategist, who very early in life, realized that spelling their last name “Vinet” backward produced T-E-N-I-V or “10-4” (by using the word followed by Roman numerals). Ten IV Communications was Kristie’s corporate growth strategy and branding agency. Kim & Kristie became dear friends as they worked together to build Affirmative Sustainability. You might notice that “affirmative” is another radio call that, like “10-4”, means: Understood. Affirmative Sustainability also draws on the power of positive affirmations for our planet, its people, and the profitability of our businesses.

Our philosophy for business

No matter how we live our lives — humans seek nature.

Why else do we book beach vacations, that fishing trip or an adventure holiday? If we truly appreciate the outdoors; it is essential that we protect it.

It’s as simple as that.

Kim Vinet

Founder & Director of Programming

GRI Certified Sustainability Professional
Energy Scientist & Policy Manager
B.Sc. Hons. Earth & Atmospheric Science

Kim has a very unique background that combines experience in energy production, policy development and project management with a professional ski career! Her love of the outdoors drew her into the mountains, which fostered a passion for protecting our natural spaces.

Having graduated with an honours degree in Earth & Atmospheric Sciences, she spent the early part of her career in the energy industry; first in petroleum and evolving into the renewables sector. Management of energy projects demanded policy development and a deep understanding of energy markets. In turn, this led to participation in carbon offset development and emissions auditing. Kim’s realistic and pragmatic approach to technical subject matter has positioned her as an expert in sustainable development and she is dedicated to empowering corporations in aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Kim Vinet is a Certified Sustainability Professional through the Global Reporting Initiative.

Inspiration from the outdoors

A naturalist at heart, Kim recharges and energizes her passion for her work through a deep love of and connection to nature.

Beginning in 2011, Kim competed in the Freeride World Tour Qualifying Series, which led to less time spent in the office, and more time on snow to train for that level of competition. Her relationship with the mountains flourished in pursuit of ski guiding — where we rely on signals from nature to indicate whether or not it’s safe to proceed.

More than any other aspect of her identity, skiing fulfills Kim’s personal core values of love, health, playfulness and freedom.

Sometimes it’s easy to forget that nature is out there existing; with or without us. Spending time as a ski guide, nurturing and empowering other people’s relationship with our fragile alpine spaces, has provided the imperative that we bring this relationship back into our day-to-day lives.
